When God Allows Pain - 2 Corinthians 12: 1-10
Summary of Sermon
In this passage we have an event in Paul’s life, he dies and is caught up in heaven and there he sees stuff that he cannot put into words. In Acts 14: 9-20, we see that Paul is killed, and comes back to life. This may be when this happens. We are then told in 2 Corinthians that Paul was given a ‘messenger of Satan’ to buffet him, and hit him.
From what we can tell from Paul’s writing, it seems he was losing his sight and in Galatians, we see that the people of that church would have given them their eyes if they could have. Paul asked God to take away the pain, and the ailment and God said no. Rather, Paul had to depend on God’s grace to get him through.
God does not always heal the pain. Jesus asked that last night 3 times, “Lord take this cup from me’, but Jesus still died a gruesome death. Sometimes God allows us to suffer pain for His glory and to help others as well. In Hebrews 11, beginning in verse 35, we see that some of God’s people were tortured, and killed in gruesome ways and there was a lot of pain and suffering. God allowed this to happen. But God has promised that we can endure through His grace any pain that He allows.
