This Place is not Our Home – Genesis 21:22-34, 1 Peter 2: 11-17
Summary of Sermon
Abraham lived among the Philistines. He did business and raised his animals and crops with them. He even made agreements and covenants with them, but he never became one of them. The AMP version calls Abraham a ‘resident alien’ in these verses.
In 1 Peter we are called to be ‘sojourners and pilgrims’; Peter encourages us and tells us how to live in this world but not as this world:
- Get away from fleshly lusts—fleshy wants that take our focus away from the Lord. This could be money, sex, friends and a host of other things that take our eyes off our eternal home and we settle for things here. Vs 11
- Live in such a way that even when they accuse you of evil it will have no power, verse 12, rather the way you and I live will convince the people that there is a God.
- Submit to the laws of the land, except when it violates the laws of God. The apostles set this example in Acts 5:29
