The Long and Short of God's Memory - 1 Samuel 15:1-9, Exodus 17: 8-16
Summary of Sermon
Which side of God’s memory are you on? In the account we read in 1 Samuel, this is about 445 years or so after the events had happened back in Exodus 17. There Amalek attacked the nation of Israel as they journeyed through the wilderness on the way to the Promised Land. But here we are 445 or so years later and God remembers their sins and he sends Saul to avenge their behavior. In Exodus 34: 17 we see God remember the sins to the 3rd and 4th generations to those that are His enemies.
In contrast, to those of us who are washed in the blood of Jesus; we believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and depend on that only for our salvation, have the benefit of being on the Lord’s short memory. God, the Bible tells us in various verses, removes our sins, blots out our sins, drops our sins in the depths of the seas, casts our sins behind His back and that He remembers our sins no more. Take the time to read, Psalm 32, 51, Psalm 103:12, Micah 7: 18-19, Isaiah 38:17, Hebrews 8:12 and there are many other scriptures you can find. So, what side of God’s memory are you on?
