The Hope in Us - 1 Peter 3:8-17
Summary of Sermon
Peter challenges us to be always ready to give a reason for the Hope that we have in Jesus. Along the way, he leads us through a lifestyle that helps us to be ready when these opportunities come our way. A lot of being ready had to do with how we treat each other in the house of the Lord.
In vs 3, Peter calls us to be like-minded; we should have as our goal, the glorification of God. This should be the life goal of all who are believers especially those who are in a local church. In setting our life goals, we will show love, mercy, and compassion and not be ones to seek revenge.
In vs 10, we are challenged to control our tongues, to those who speak life and not death. Things like gossip, back-biting, whisperings and the like should not be a part of our daily walk as church people. Rather our words should bring love and life to those of the Lord’s house.
In vs 13-14, we see that even when we do ‘good’, there may be times when we are called to suffer. It is a part of life. The Bible says we are blessed if we suffer for what is right. In so doing we are now ready to give an answer of the hope in us. We can testify about Jesus and all He has done for and in us and offer that hope to others.
