The Family of God Ephesians 1:4-5, Galatians 4:6-7

Summary of Sermon

When we are born again, we are born into the Family of God. 1 John 3:1, tells us to ‘behold the love that God has for us that we should be called the children of God’.

This is a reminder to all of us that we are no longer a part of the world, no longer alone, abandoned or forgotten. We are now the children of God. In Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:6, we are told that we can now call God ‘Abba’, the Hebrew word for Dad. This is the intimacy that we now have in Jesus. As such, we are to treat the family of God as family. The older men are like fathers, 1 Timothy 5:1-2, and the older women as mothers. In the same passage, we are told to treat the younger men as brothers and the younger women as sisters.

In Titus 2: 1-8, we see there that these family members have roles, the fathers teaches the younger men how to be godly men and the older women teaches the young women how to be godly women. The idea is that we take responsibility for each other and help each other to get better. We are to love each other and Jesus leave the apostles with this teaching in John 13: 34-35A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another.
