Summary of Sermon

There is a hellish doctrine going around that says that there are a select few that God has chosen to redeem and the rest of us are damned to Hell. These folks are always in the elect and so are their kids most of the time.

I heard a prominent preacher use this passage to talk about being one of the chosen, but he conveniently left out who the chosen actually are. In this passage, we are told who the chosen ones are. We are told by the apostle Pual that God has chosen the ‘foolish in the wisdom of the world’, verses 20 & 27; He has chosen the ‘weak things to shame the strong’, verse 27; He has chosen the ‘lowly things of the world and the things that are not’ to show up the things that are. God has chosen that the ‘nothings’ of this world will be the ones that He selects. You see we who are the foolish, the weak, the lowly and the nothings, come to Him, humbly with nothing to offer and put our trust in Jesus and Jesus alone. I/ We have no righteousness, no honour, no power in ourselves. We just trust Jesus and we boast in Him, verse 31. He is all I have, nothing more. Are you one of God’s chosen? Look at the list and maybe you will see yourself.
