Same Demons; Different People: Psalm 82, Ephesians 6: 10-12

Summary of Sermon

Paul tells us in Ephesians 6 that our real fight is with spiritual beings. We wrestle with highly organized and very intelligent beings that can inhabit the people all around us and use them. There is a spiritual world that is at war all around us.

We know from Job 1 & 2 that Satan has powers; he was able to call down fire from heaven and inflict Job with boils on his body. In Dan 7, we see that an angel, called the prince of Persia was able to hold up Gabriel from delivering a message to Daniel. We can go on and on, but the obvious truth is that there is an invisible world around us that is alive and well.

In Psalm 82, it would appear that some of these spiritual beings were responsible for justice, they were supposed to care for the poor and weak, but instead, they perverted justice and hurt the very people they were to protect. This has been going on for millennia. We have the same things going on today, the justices that are supposed to promote and preserve justice are not doing so, they interpret the law rather than apply it. These are the same spirits of Psalm 82, but using men and women in 2023.

We are promised that one day God will come and claim all the nations as an inheritance, He will promote true justice and stand for the poor and weak.
