Put On New Habits - Colossians 3:12-17

Summary of Sermon

Paul here is encouraging the members of this local church to new habits; these habits would identify them as a child of God and bring God glory. The word glory means to ‘form the right opinion’, thus Paul is encouraging these Christians to live in such a way that people see them and ‘form the right opinion’ of God.

We are told in many studies that it takes between 59-70 days of doing something to form a new habit and to have it become automatic. Notice that there are some things in eh verses that we are required to do, in several verses we are instructed to ‘put on’ certain things and then in other verses we are encouraged to ‘let’ certain things happen. We are to be driven by the fact that we are loved by God and we are told to ‘wrap’ ourselves in this love. It is like a protective layer that helps us endure the tests of life. Like any new habits, these will take time, determination and effort.
