Marks of a Good Man – Ruth 2:1-12

Summary of Sermon

The story of Ruth focuses on a young woman who leaves all behind to follow her mother-in-law back to Israel from Moab. She, like Naomi her mother-in-law has lost all, has had a sad life and together they return to Israel hoping for some relief. In the process Ruth meets Boaz, he is a near relative of Naomi’s husband and the Law asks that he or someone in his near kinship, marry Ruth and carry on the name of the dead husband. In meeting Boaz, we can see in him the traits of a good man and what to look for.

He is good with money, 2:1
He is humble, 2:3
He knows how to notice a good woman, 2: 7-12
He knows how to follow the rules, 4: 1-7
He knows how to protect a woman’s reputation, Ruth 3:12-14
He is a marrying man, 4: 10-13
