Love, Do Good, Pray for Enemies - Matthew 5: 1-12, 43-48
Summary of Sermon Message
There has been a backlash from the events of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. There have been apologies made and the like, but nonetheless, the attack was made to blaspheme our Lord and Savior. They will not make the same fun of Islam or any other religion. We should stop being surprised when these things happen. We were told by Jesus that they would hate us as they hated Him. How then should we respond?
In verse 7, Jesus tells us to be merciful. We are sinners too, we are saved by grace and they are in need of grace. Were it not for Jesus, it could be us making fun and defying God. We are called to look for peace and then in the later part of the chapter Jesus lays out three ways to treat our enemies, we are to LOVE them, no call for fire to fall on them, but to love them like Jesus loves them like He loves us. We should want them to find Him, to come to repentance and to be saved. Don’t hate them, they are blinded, and thus we are called to PRAY for them. Ask that God will open their eyes and that He will guide them to an army of saved persons in Paris right now handing out Bibles and tracks. We are to DO GOOD, God blesses the just and the unjust, and we should be kind and loving to these when we contact them. At no point do we condone sin, but we are to love the person Jesus died for. By His grace, some of these will meet us in the Kingdom; sinners saved by grace.
