Lord Just Let Me Die 1 Kings 19:1-10, 14-18
Summary of Sermon
In 1 Kings 18, the prophet Elijah has one of the greatest victories recorded in the Bible. He shows the nation that God is god and he helps to kill off 450 of the prophets of Baal who help lead Israel astray. Then he is confronted by Jezebel and this one woman sends him running for fear and he ends up alone, begging God to let him die.
Elijah fears that he is the only one left. But God promises him that there are more than 7000 who are faithful to Him. In the midst of this meltdown, God ends up letting Elijah just rest and get some good food. Elijah ends up going 40 days in all resting and he ends up in a cave. There God calls him to go and do the work.
It is okay to break, it is okay to be defeated and it is okay to get away for a bit, but sooner or later you have to get back to the work at hand. Never forget that God has people everywhere. People that we don’t see and don’t know, but God does. Take the time to read about Dr. Charles Leslie a missionary who died defeated, but almost a century later they find a thriving church work where he thought he had failed. Our job to do the work, God’s job is the success thereof.
