Living with Peace of Mind Pt. 1 Hebrews 13:1-9

Summary of Sermon

As we get older, at least for me, peace of mind is a real goal. One of the commentaries labelled this chapter as living the ‘good Christian life’. Whichever, here are some things that we can all do to make a better life and live the Christian life in peace:

Love each other, the love word here is ‘Philadelphia’, this specifically refers to brotherly love. In the Lord’s churches, we should have fervent brotherly love for each other. Vs1

Love strangers, this is referring to Christian families that we don’t know. We are not to let ourselves be taken advantage of, but we should be hospitable; this very word means to help strangers. Vs 2

Remember those saved persons who are in prison, Paul, who I consider to be the author of this book was in prison for the Gospel, as were Peter and others. Here in our time, we have pastors who have been arrested here in Canada for hosting church during the covid lockdowns, and one was arrested recently for protesting drag queen story time at a library in Calgary. Vs 3

Honour marriage. For the very first time, there are more children born to unmarried women than married in the US. The breakdown and demonization of marriage is from the pit of hell. Enjoy each other, make sexual relations important, and live out your desires together. Vs 4

Live in contentment. Do not be greedy. This is not an excuse to be lazy. Ambition is not greed. The desire to work hard and be better off is not the same as greed. Greed will take another man’s stuff rather than make your own. Remember that God will never leave you, ever. Verse 6 offers us 5 negatives in the original language, ‘I will no, never leave, never, no, never will I forsake you. This verse could not be plainer.
