June 2: More True Worship – Titus 2:1-10

Summary of Sermon

In this passage we see the apostle Paul giving young Titus instructions on how to set this local church in Crete in order, see chapter 1: 1-5. As a part of that setting in order we come to the idea of the roles of the men and women in the Lord’s churches. How do we truly worship the Lord? Last time we looked at Zechariah and saw that rituals are not the way to worship. Rather, God calls us to action that involves how we treat each other.

In this passage, older men are called to have integrity, have sound Biblical doctrine, be self-controlled, live out their faith and endure in the service of and for the Lord. Don’t be quitters, set a good example for the young me.

The older women are to be careful not to gossip, teach the younger women to love their husbands, raise their children, be homemakers, as well as be self-controlled and kind, along with other admonitions. The whole purpose for living this way is so that the name of God will not be maligned. Thus, when we live this way we glorify God and help people to see Him the true way. This is true worship. The world hates this idea of centering our lives around the family, integrity and serving each other, but this is true worship
