It Takes No Effort to Fail: Proverbs 24: 30-34
Summary of Sermon
In this passage, Solomon is passing on wisdom to his son and giving him some practical knowledge about life. It takes no effort to fail. Solomon was showing his son that laziness has dire consequences. The vineyard was overgrown, the walls protecting it was fallen down and there were nettles choking the life out of the vines.
Such is our life in our various aspects, your marriage will without effort, your business will fail without effort, your life will fail without effort and on we can go. We have all passed by a country home with a rotten car sitting out back that no one has put any effort into, the rust is taking over and the car is useless.
Solomon encourages his son to look and learn, vs 33. In verse 34 we find that poverty comes to those who are lazy and those who do not want to work. In contrast, God describes what He did to cultivate Israel, He had to remove the stones, till the land, build a wall and on to make the vineyard work. Everything in life requires work, you have to constantly maintain your vineyard, you have to maintain your car, your marriage, your skills and yes, your walk with Jesus.
Bible study, prayer, forgiveness, obedience to the Lord, serving, and church attendance are all part of the effort that is required to maintain a good relationship with the Lord. Anything you want to succeed at will require hard work.
