God Will Avenge Evil - Psalm 52
Summary of Sermon
To get the complete context you need to read 1 Samuel 21 and 22. This Psalm is a response to the incident including Doeg, where he tries to gain favor with Saul by talking about the Priest helping David and then he, Doeg killing the whole town of men, women and children.
Verses 1-4, a bot of sarcasm ‘Mighty man’, this is a sarcastic cut at Doeg, he killed a bunch of women, children and unarmed men. We are told in Samuel that there were no weapons there at Nob.
Verse 5, is a genuine cry for God’s justice. Unlike the ‘mighty man’, God will actually destroy these kinds of men. The verse can be read as a call out may He do this or that to you. There is nothing wrong with wanting God to execute justice on the evil men around us.
Verses 6-7, when Godly people see the justice of God it magnifies their reverence of God. It makes them laugh to know that those who chose evil will be dealt with.
Verses 8-9, I live in the presence of God and I will also trust in His mercy. I will praise God because He is truly strong. I will wait on God to do justice, I will not take it into my own hands.
