Face to Face With God—Job 42:1-6, Isaiah 6:1-9
Many people were saying that the rapture might take place on April 8th, 2024, as the solar eclipse was happening; they were wrong and could no longer be considered prophets of God. But I had a thought: how many of us are ready to meet Jesus, to meet God, and to be in His presence?
We often treat Jesus’ majesty very flippantly, and we forget that although He became a man, He is God. In both of our passages, once these men came ‘face to face’ with God and saw Him in his glory, they understood how dirty and sinful they were. Job was a godly man, but in the presence of God, he abhorred himself, and Isaiah, a prophet, saw that he was undone and sinful.
In Luke 5, Jesus calls Peter and uses a miracle of catching fish—lots of fish—and once Peter understood who Jesus was, he asked Jesus to leave as he, Peter, was a sinful man. There is this idea that we are going to run up to Jesus and hug him or high-five him in heaven. But I suspect we will be in our faces, wondering why the Holy God would want us filthy wretches anywhere near him. He does, and He sent Jesus to save us while we were still in our sins.
