Doing the Right thing the Right Way: 1 Chronicles 13 & 15

Summary Of Sermon

Most of us have heard of the story of Robin Hood. He stole from the rich and gave to the poor. We have watched and cheered this movie, but the truth is stealing from the rich is still stealing. No matter the motive, it is still wrong.

Well in our texts we see David, whom God has blessed and he is excited to do something to honour the Lord so he decides to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This was the city that God had chosen for Himself, but the Jews were never able to conquer it until David reigned in Israel. Now that they were there, David wanted to bring the Ark home. He built a cart with Oxen to pull it and put the Ark on it, they then began the journey to Jerusalem, but along the way, the Oxen stumbled and a man named Uzzah put out his hand to catch it and when he touched the ark, God killed him.

Then in chapter 15, David begins the journey again but it appears they have consulted the Law, Exodus 32 and read that the Levites were to bare the Ark on gold poles and it was not to be carried on a cart. God had a way to do the right thing the right way. When they did so, there was joy, and feasting and no one died.

Salvation is important and needs to be done the right way. Jesus is the ONLY way that God recognizes. Many religions tell us there are multiple ways to Heaven but God says there is ONLY one (John 14:6). Are you doing the right thing the right way?
