Dead Idols Or The Living God Isaiah 46:1-10
Dead Idols or the Living God,
Isaiah 48:1–10
In this passage, God paints a contrast between the things that we tend to worship and the true God. We don’t think that we worship idols today, but an idol is anything that we put as more important than God. This could be a family, a job, a hobby, a friend, comfort, or simply anything that takes the preeminence over God as an idol.
The idols are heavy and we have to carry them, in contrast, God carries us and His burden is light. These idols went into captivity along with the people they protected and offered no protection at all, verses 1-3
The idols though made of precious gold and silver are dead, they cannot hear and they cannot answer. Men make them, goldsmiths beat them into shape. In contrast, God has made us, 5-7
The idols cannot tell us the future, they cannot say anything at all. God tells us the future. He can see today and tomorrow; He can see 1000 years from now and He can accurately tell us what will happen. Idols cannot do that. They cannot speak. Verse 8-10
We should trust only in God, the God who carries us and our burdens, the God who can hear us an answer, the God who tells us the future with precision.
