Broken - But Not Hopeless: Job 19:1-27
Summary of Sermon
In this chapter we see Job may be beginning to show some cracks in his outlook on life. He is feeling the pain of what he thinks is God's abandonment and then the pain of the loss of his support people. His friends abandon him, his wife hates that he is still living, his servants don’t even acknowledge him, he hates his very life and he can’t seem to see an end to his suffering.
His friends have been accusing him of all manner of evil; from stealing from widows to cheating the poor, to lying, he is just evil and is getting what he deserves. In the midst of this barrage of hatred from the outside, the emotional and spiritual loneliness that he is feeling and being abandoned by every level of people from family to mere acquaintances, Job holds on to hope, the hope that these pains, these suffering and yes, these people are temporary. One day, sooner, rather than later, he will see his Redeemer eye to eye, face to face and all this will be a distant and even forgotten memory.
